Coaching and Its Impacts

People talk more and more about coaching not only in corporation but also outside corporation. We heard about how having a coach can transform people’s lives.

I was introduced to a coaching world by my former superior, Janti Soeripto, over ten years ago. Started with six month engagement, I ended up having coach for eighteen months. It had been an exciting period of my life journey as I enjoyed every single session with my coach. Every time I learned new things about myself and took the session’s outcomes out as energy pills for me to be a better leader and person.

Coaching means “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” says The International Coach Federation (ICF). My coach did partner with me throughout my coaching journey, notably helping me to know more about myself and building some good habits for me as leader and person and creating energy within myself to grasp opportunities.

One thing that my coach surprisingly made me was to have a peace with my fear of sea. In one session we discussed about one aspect of my life that scored low: leisure. Then after digging, this fear of sea came out. We talked it through. By the end of the session, one action item was to bring my family to Lombok and Bali with some activities at the beach and in the sea. That was one of my great holidays ever. I don’t love the sea but I don’t hate it as before.

As leader, the coaching sessions have made me a lot more people-person than before. In the transformation journey, together with my coach I had built some habits for me to appreciate that everyone on my team is unique and how I can inspire them to be the best of them. Having experienced myself the impacts of coaching and now running as a professional coach, I am now partnering with my coachees to help them grow and develop. With over twenty years in corporation world, from established multinational companies to start up, diverse industries, and over ten years in top management, I am eager to help executive, corporate and start up leaders, commercial leaders and future leaders to grow further. While career may be the first common topics my coachees want to talk about, along with the coaching journey we usually talk about their other aspects in life.
